Manfred Rüsing (born June 3, 1946 ) is a German football player who, as an active member of VfL Bochum, played 36 games in the 1970/71 championship and promotion round in the Regionalliga West 26 and from 1971 to 1973 in the Bundesliga . Before that, he had already played 94 games in what was then the second division of the German league system with four goals in the ranks of his home club Lüner SV in the West Regional Football League from 1967 to 1970.

career

West Germany, until 1973

Manfred Rüsing grew up in western Westphalia, north of Dortmund, and went through all youth stations as well as the transition to senior football with the Red-Whites from the Schwansbell Stadium, with Lüner SV. He belonged to the master team of the LSV in the 1966/67 season in the amateur league Westphalia , which was able to prevail in the promotion round against the competition of VfB Bottrop, Fortuna Cologne and SpVgg Erkenschwick and achieved promotion to the Regionalliga West. The young talent was able to benefit from the experience and skills of defense strategists Erhard Ahmann and Dieter Zorc . Under coach Werner Nagerski he continued to improve his defensive qualities and finished 8th in the West Regionalliga with the promoted player in 1967/68 . In the third season in the then second division, 1969/70 , Lünen even worked his way up to 6th place under the new coach Herbert Eiteljörge . With goalkeeper Detlef Behrens, his defensive colleagues Friedrich “Benno” Düsenberg, Hans-Jürgen Biskup, Hans-Georg Liebern, Dieter Zorc and Siegfried Eitzert, he formed the outstanding defense, which conceded only 37 goals in 34 championship games. In the duels against the champions VfL Bochum - in the preliminary round Lünen achieved a 1-1 draw in front of 14,500 spectators and in the second half of the season even a 3-1 away win in Bochum on April 12, 1970 - the consistent two-fighter stood out in particular against the outstanding western goalscorer Hans Walitza . This was also noticed by the VfL coach Hermann Eppenhoff , and so "Alex" Rüsing signed a new contract for the 1970/71 round with the Westmeister who had failed in the 1970 kickers Offenbach promotion round and moved to Bochum.

With the team from Castroper Strasse, he won the title in the Regionalliga West in 1971 - he was active in 26 league games - and he was also on the ball in the Bundesliga promotion round against competitors VfL Osnabrück, FK Pirmasens, Karlsruher SC and Tasmania 1900 Berlin and rose to the Bundesliga with Bochum. The first Bochum Bundesliga game took place on August 14, 1971 in Bochum against Eintracht Braunschweig. Hans-Werner Hartl's goal in the 14th minute in front of 29,000 spectators was enough for the first double point win. The defense with goalkeeper Hans-Jürgen Bradler and the defensive block with Reinhold Wosab , Manfred Rüsing, Erwin Galeski and Dieter Versen defended the narrow lead until the final whistle. At the end of the round, Rüsing had played 25 Bundesliga games and the climber was in 9th place. From the 1972/73 round, Heinz Höher took over the coaching position in Bochum and the man from Lünen was no longer part of the regular cast. He played his last Bundesliga game for Bochum on matchday 34, June 9, 1973, in the 2: 5 defeat at Werder Bremen. Since the new coach of the southern regional league club 1. FC Nürnberg, ex-national goalkeeper Hans Tilkowski , came from the Dortmund suburb of Husen , he already knew Rüsing from his time at Lüner SV and arranged the reliable stopover to the old master in Franconia .

Southern Germany, 1973 to 1978

In the last season of the old regional league second class, 1973/74, Rüsing immediately completed all 34 rounds for Nuremberg and his new club moved into the Bundesliga promotion round thanks to the runner-up in the south. On the last match day, June 8th 1974, the "Club" missed the return to the Bundesliga with a 2-2 draw against bottom of the table 1. FC Saarbrücken due to the worse goal difference against Eintracht Braunschweig, tied with 11: 5 points. Rüsing had played in all eight games in the promotion round against Braunschweig, Wattenscheid 09, Wacker 04 Berlin and Saarbrücken. From the 1974/75 round, the new 2nd Bundesliga was introduced as a substructure for the Bundesliga in two seasons. His former teammate from Bochum, striker Walitza, came to the Noris, but coach Tilkowski's team only reached 6th place. In the second year of the 2nd Bundesliga, 1975/76, Nuremberg took 2nd place behind champions 1. FC Saarbrücken - Rüsing made 33 rounds - and was therefore able to play two playoffs against Borussia Dortmund for the third promotion place in the Bundesliga. The home game on June 17 was lost with 0-1 goals in front of 53,000 spectators, the second leg on June 23 in Dortmund in front of 53,000 spectators with 2: 3 goals. Rüsing's opponent, Dortmund's center forward Gerd Kasperski , went empty-handed as a goal scorer in both games. In the third year in Nuremberg, under Tilkowski's successor Horst Buhtz , Norbert Eder made it into the starting eleven and Rüsing only played 13 games. After a total of 79 games in the 2nd Bundesliga with one goal, Manfred Rüsing ended his playing career in professional football in the summer of 1977.

He stayed in Franconia and added another year of amateur football to the 1977/78 round at SpVgg Büchenbach. This was followed by coaching positions in the Franconian amateur area at DTV Diespeck, three times at TSV Altenfurt, in Schwaig and Katzwang, as well as activities in the youth department of 1. FC Nuremberg.
