Johann Friedrich Borcherding

Johann Friedrich "Fritz" Borcherding (born April 5, 1849 in Badbergen - Groß Mimmelage ; † March 4, 1924 in Bremen - Vegesack ) was a German educator and naturalist.

biography

Education, work and family

Friedrich Borcherding graduated from high school in Quakenbrück . He then attended the teachers' seminar in Osnabrück until 1870 . His first activity as a teacher took him to Hörne near Balje . In 1872 he became an assistant teacher and in 1874 a teacher at the elementary school in Vegesack. Until 1922 he worked here as a teacher for 50 years (!).
He was married to Gesine Schäffer from a long-established captain's family in Vegesack. Johanna (Hanna) Borcherding (1876–1960), teacher, naturalist and co-founder of the Vegesack city garden , was their daughter.

Naturalist

From an early age he dealt with natural history matters of conchology . He studied the mollusks (mollusks). He published his research results in numerous essays and in 1883 in the publication Die Molluskenfauna der Norddeutschen Tiefebene . He exchanged his results with other experts, such as u. a. the Natural Research Society of Emden , the Natural Science Association for the Principality of Lüneburg and the Natural Science Association of Bremen .

Borcherding's collection was given to the Hannover Provincial Museum . The museum in Kolberg acquired his foreign collection .

Honors

  • He was an honorary member of the Natural Science Association in Lüneburg .
  • The Borcherdingstraße in Bremen, district of Vegesack , in 1952 was named after him.
