Jonas ghost

Jonas Geist , bourgeois Johann Friedrich Geist (born June 4, 1936 in Lübeck ; † January 6, 2009 ibid), was a German architect , urban planner , architectural historian and author .

Life

After attending the Katharineum high school in Lübeck , Geist studied architecture at the TU Berlin , where he was a student of Ernst Heinrich . He received his doctorate in 1969 with the dissertation Passagen, a building type from the 19th century , which was published in three editions due to its strong international recognition, and in 1971 he was appointed assistant professor. After his habilitation in 1977, he received a call from the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin that same year , which he accepted. As Julius Posener's successor , he became professor of history, theory and criticism of architecture. In 2004 he retired .

Geist established scientific research in the history of architecture and style and made reference to the associated forms of society. The three-volume work Das Berliner Mietshaus (1740–1989), in which his approach to building research is presented, was created in collaboration with Klaus Kürvers .

Since 1993 Geist has been a member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts , in whose architecture archive his library is kept.
