Johann Froitzheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Froitzheim (born May 2, 1847 in Nuremberg , † August 12, 1909 in Strasbourg ) was a German teacher and Goethe researcher.

Life

Froitzheim studied classical philology and ancient history at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1868 he became a member of the Teutonia Bonn Landsmannschaft , which became a Corps in 1875 . In 1873 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. He became a teacher at the Realprogymnasium in Bischweiler , later a senior teacher at the New Realschule in Strasbourg . In Alsace he came across source material on German literature by Sturm und Drang , which he processed in numerous articles and several books. He caused offense with the claim that he had found evidence of the existence of an illegitimate child from the love affair between Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friederike Brion . This dismantling of the contemporary Friederiken cult caused outrage in Wilhelmine Germany and was violently attacked by representatives of academic German studies such as Erich Schmidt and Woldemar von Biedermann . His son Otto Froitzheim became world famous as a tennis player.
