Johann Georg Krauer

Johann Georg Krauer (born April 3, 1792 in Kriens ; † October 3, 1845 in Altwis ) was a Swiss scientist , doctor and poet .

Life

After attending school in Lucerne , Johann Georg Krauer studied natural sciences and medicine in Zurich , Freiburg im Breisgau and Geneva . During his studies he became a member of the Old Freiburg Burschenschaft / Harmonie and in 1816 of the Corps Helvetia Freiburg . He was the founder of the Freiburg Zofinger Association . He did his doctorate in Göttingen and then worked as a professor of natural history at the Lyceum in Lucerne. Because of his political views, he was dismissed and then worked as a country doctor in various Lucerne rural communities.

In 1824 Johann Georg Krauer published a directory of wild plants in the canton of Lucerne ( Prodromus florae Lucernensis, sive stirpium phancrogamarum in agro Lucernensi et proximis ejus confiniis sponte nascendum catalogus ). In addition, he wrote patriotic poems, of which the most famous is the Rütlilied (1820) set to music by Franz Josef Greith (" Greetings from far away, you quiet area by the lake")
