Johann Gerhard Schlitte (* 1683 in Halberstadt ; † January 23, 1748 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

The son of the Great Chamberlain Wichmann Schlitte and his wife Anna Gertrud (née Pfau) had been taught by private teachers since their early youth. He attended the St. Martin School and the Cathedral School in his hometown before joining the newly founded Pedagogical Center in Glaucha in 1697 . Soon he switched to the grammar school in Gotha and was prepared there by the then rector Gottfried Vockerodt (1665–1727) in order to be able to go to a university. In 1699 he moved to the University of Halle to study law.

He also attended the lectures of Samuel Stryk , Christian Thomasius , Johann Franz Buddeus and Johann Friedemann Schneider (1669–1733). Actually he would have liked to go on an educational trip to the Dutch universities in 1704, but the death of his father prevented him from doing so. After staying in Halberstadt for a while, he returned to Halle, passed his bar exam, acquired the right to give lectures at the university and became a royal government attorney. When the government was moved from Halle to Magdeburg in 1713, he stayed in Halle where he only concentrated on reading aloud.

That is why Schlitte disputed under Jakob Friedrich Ludovici (1671–1732) with de prohabilitate and received his doctorate in law. On December 18, 1720 he became an associate professor at the law faculty, on October 9, 1726 he was a full professor, connected with this he was appointed assessor of the law faculty and was appointed royal Prussian court counselor. Schlitte had also participated in the organizational tasks of the university and had led the protectorate of the alma mater in the first semester of 1738 . Schlitte's main literary focus was on the annotated edition of well-known works by Ludovici.

He had been converted from the Lutheran faith to the Reformed faith and married Anna Elisabeth, the daughter of the princely court preacher and consistorial councilor in Barby, Johann Heinrich Bleymüller in 1717. Two girls emerged from this marriage. One daughter died at a young age. The second daughter, Johanna Juliana Charlotte, married Johann Gottlieb Ditmar Wernig, a doctor in Writzen an der Oder in August 1745.
