Johann Gottlob Werner (also: Wernher ; born September 24, 1719 in Korgitzsch ; † January 6, 1781 in Dobrilugk ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

The son of the farmer Gottfried Werner attended high school in Torgau and studied at the University of Leipzig from May 19, 1740 . Werner moved to the University of Wittenberg in 1743 , where on October 17, 1743 he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy. Then he pursued an academic career, on January 19, 1745 passed the examination for reading permission at universities as a Magister legens and on August 20, 1746 was accepted as an adjunct in the philosophical faculty of the Wittenberg University.

After he became an associate professor of antiquities in 1750 , he pursued a theological path according to his inclinations and in 1753 became the first pastor and superintendent in Jüterbog . For this purpose, he completed his licentiate in Wittenberg on September 24, 1755, and on the following day he received his doctorate in theology .

From 1761 he was pastor primarius and superintendent at the castle church in Doberlug . He died in Doberlug and was buried in the castle church (former Cistercian monastery church ), where his tomb and a portrait are located. The inscription on his tomb reads:

“This is for the holy Lord / D. Johann Gottlob Werner. / The same was d. September 24th Born 1719 in Korgitzsch near Belgern / and after he finished the schools in Belgians a. Torgau freqventirt / also at the universities of Leipzig and Wittenberg / dedicated to theology, 1750 Professor Philosophiae / Extraordin. zu Wittenberg, 1755 Doctor Theologiae and / 1761 Pastor Prim. Schloß-Prediger u. Superinten- / dent to Dobrilugk, wherever on January 6th, 1781 in his / Savior gently u. fell asleep peacefully; and so is his age / 61 year 3 months 3 weeks. / dedicated by JS Wernerin, W. "
