Johann Heinrich Daniel Moldenhawer
Johann Heinrich Daniel Moldenhawer (born October 29, 1709 in Halle an der Saale , † April 8, 1790 in Hamburg ) was a German Protestant theologian , librarian and Bible translator .
Life
Moldenhawer studied theology at the Königsberg Collegium Fridericianum . In 1733 he became a deacon in Kreuzberg, in 1737 in Königsberg. In 1744 he was appointed associate professor of theology, in 1764 he became a full professor. From 1756 to 1763 he was the librarian of the Wallenrodt library .
After losing his apartment and his personal library in a fire, he went to Hamburg in 1765, where he became cathedral pastor and the last lector secundarius at the Hamburg Cathedral . The time he had outside of this activity he used for studies, he published numerous books and translated the entire Bible on his own. He tried to bring the contents of the Bible closer to educated people and participated in the fragmentation dispute with some writings .
Moldenhawer was married three times and had 15 children, including the botanist Johann Jacob Paul Moldenhawer and the theologian and librarian Daniel Gotthilf Moldenhawer .
