Johann Heinrich Rößler (born September 3, 1751 in Hausen near Vellberg , † July 19, 1832 in Untermünkheim ) founded the Rößler family of carpenters.

Life

He was the son of the farmer Johann Leonhard Rößler (1715–1787). The family moved to Trögelsberg around 1758 . Johann Heinrich later came to Untermünkheim, where he married Maria Rosina Schneider on August 24, 1779 and at that time is already mentioned as the local master carpenter . In around 20 years, the couple had ten children. It is no longer known today where Johann Heinrich Rößler received his technical training. He belonged to the Hall guild .

The three sons were trained as cabinet makers in their father's workshop in house no.12 (today: Hohenloher Straße):

The workshop of Johann Heinrich Rößler and later that of his son Johann Michael never trained more than one apprentice and had at most two journeymen . The workshop also included various “house journeyman”, i.e. H. Servants, maids, servants, helpers, family members, etc.

In Untermünkheim, the Rößlers mainly manufactured classic rural dowry furniture such as cupboards, chests and four-poster beds and thus shaped the appearance of painted farmhouse furniture in the area around Schwäbisch Hall and in Hohenlohe . Tables, chairs and wall shelves were also made for the urban market, where painted farmhouse furniture was not in demand.

The work of Johann Heinrich Rößler is largely only presumably attributed, as it was only his son Johann Michael Rößler who signed the painted furniture. On the basis of unsigned dates on pieces of furniture and stylistic derivations, however, the father's work can be inferred.

Furniture from the Rößler family of carpenters can be found among others. a. in the Landesmuseum Württemberg , in the Rößler-Museum in Untermünkheim, in the Heimatmuseum in Künzelsau , in the Weygang-Museum in Öhringen , in the Hällisch-Fränkisches Museum in Schwäbisch Hall and in the Hohenloher Freilandmuseum Wackershofen .
