Johann Himmel

Johann Himmel (born December 27, 1581 in Stolpe, Pomerania ; † March 31, 1642 in Jena ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

From 1601, Himmel studied at the University of Wittenberg , the University of Jena and the University of Gießen . He then went on an educational trip that took him through southern Germany, Switzerland, Alsace and the Palatinate. Then he became rector in Durlach, he went to Speyer as a high school professor and preacher .

In 1615 he received his doctorate in theology in Giessen and in 1617 became professor of theology at the Jena University, which position he held until the end of his life. Himmel also participated in the organizational tasks of the Salana and was rector of the Alma Mater in the winter semesters 1619, 1625, 1631, 1637 . He wrote polemical and dogmatic writings that show him as a staunch Lutheran Orthodox.
