Johann Jacob John (* 1665 ; baptized September 24, 1665 in Lengefeld near Mühlhausen / Thuringia ; † August 28, 1707 in Einbeck ) was a German organ builder .

Life

Johann Jacob John began his apprenticeship as an organ builder with Johann Friedrich Wender in Mühlhausen / Thuringia in 1686 , which he completed in 1692 with a journeyman's certificate. After the death of Andreas Schweimb , he took over his organ building workshop in Einbeck . On February 25, 1702, he became a "citizen and brewer" in Einbeck and on March 1, 1702, he married Anna Catharina Sporleder, the widow of Andreas Schweimb.

John and Schweimb were in competition with Arp Schnitger and his school. In connection with the further construction of the organ in Riechenberg there were even legal disputes.

"Because they are hostile to me on all sides for no reason, and Mr. Schnitger absolutely does not want anyone other than him and his creatures to play a 32-foot trumpet bass, just as if such a thing caused more art than labor and work."
