Johann Jakob Irle
Johann Jakob Irle (born January 28, 1843 in Hatzfeld , Hesse , † September 7, 1924 in Witten ) was a missionary of the Rhenish Mission Society in German South West Africa , today's Namibia.
Life
Irle grew up in Elberfeld-Barmen and initially worked as a carpenter . In 1863 he entered the Barmer Mission School and received his ordination on August 12, 1868. Then Irle went to what would later become German South West Africa . In 1870 he worked in Otjikango, in 1871 in Okahandja . In 1872 Irle built the Otjosazu station (today: Otjisazu) and worked here until 1903.
Johann Jakob Irle, like many other missionaries, campaigned for the rights and preservation of the Herero people .
family
Johann Jakob Irle married Emilie Schweißfurt (1839–1888) on January 21, 1872 in Otjimbingwe , from this marriage there were eight children, two of whom died in childhood:

- Maria (* 1875)
- Jakob (* 1878), also a missionary
- Otto (* 1879)
- Luise (* 1880)
- Bertha (1881–1918), married the missionary Eduard Müller in 1907
On July 7, 1890, Irle married Sophie Hedwig von Rohden in Barmen , the daughter of the mission inspector Ludwig von Rohden . From this marriage there were three children.
