Johann Jakob Schläpfer

Johann Jakob Schläpfer (* 26. January 1789 in Urnäsch ; † 29. March 1850 in Herisau ; heimatberechtigt in Waldstatt , beginning in 1807 in Herisau) was a Swiss businessman , country Eckel champion , Landammann and Diet envoy from the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johann Jakob Schläpfer was a son of Johannes Schläpfer, pastor , and Katharina Nänni. In 1815 he married Katharina Barbara Binder, the illegitimate daughter of Johannes Binder and granddaughter of Rudolf Binder . He completed a commercial apprenticeship with Johannes Fisch. In 1811 he founded a yarn trade and a change shop . He was one of the richest citizens of Ausserrhoden. From 1824 to 1831 he was mayor . From 1831 to 1833 he was a member of the Herisau municipal council . From 1831 to 1839 he was a member of the cantonal revision commission. He officiated in the years 1833 and 1834 as Landesseckelmeister and from 1834 to 1840 as Landammann in Ausserrhoder. From 1837 to 1839 he was delegate to the Diet . His commitment to the separation of powers and the creation of a higher court was unsuccessful. To avoid his re-election as Landammann , he temporarily moved to St. Gallen in 1840 . He promoted the school system. In 1824 he was a co-founder of the Herisau savings fund. He acted as the main financier of Poststrasse in Herisau, which was built in 1835 and 1836. In 1837 he was a founding shareholder of the bank in St. Gallen. He was committed to the Wiesen rescue facility in Herisau.
