Johann Josef Karl Henrici (born January 25, 1737 in Schweidnitz , Principality of Schweidnitz , † October 29, 1823 in Bozen ), often simply Carl Henrici , was an Austrian baroque painter and creator of the Sacred Heart of Jesus picture in the Bolzano parish church before 1796 the Tyrolean estates solemnly consecrated the country of Tyrol, threatened by the French, to the heart of Jesus and placed it under their special protection.

Life

Carl Henrici comes from Silesia . His original family name was Heinrich. He latinized it, however, according to the custom of the time, because in such a form it seemed more appropriate for an artist.

He left his home when he was eighteen and came to Bolzano in 1757 via detours. There he entered the workshop of the copyist Mathias Twinger, married his daughter in 1759 and took over his workshop. In order to perfect himself professionally, he went to Verona in 1761 for a two-year teaching stay . Then began a long, fruitful period of independent work in Bolzano and many other places in South Tyrol . Henrici painted many portraits , created numerous images of saints , including paintings in churches and noble houses.

Carl Henrici had thirteen children with his wife Rosa, but only three grew up. However, these also died young. The artist's old age was unhappy and sad. In addition to the loss of all of his children, he went blind in 1798.
