Just Ignaz Imfeld

Johann Just Ignaz Imfeld (* May 12, 1691 in Sarnen ; † September 17, 1765 ibid) was Obwalden magistrate in various influential positions.

Life

Imfeld was the son of the schoolmaster and organist Sebastian Imfeld and Marie Ursula Imfeld. His younger brother Anton Sebastian was Prince Abbot of Einsiedeln under the name Nikolaus II. Imfeld from 1734 . From the marriage of Just Ignaz Imfeld to Marie Cäcilia Imfeld (1768–1766) 18 children were born.

From 1727 to 1737 Imfeld was a land clerk . In 1734 he served as a captain in the service of the German Emperor Charles VI. 1737–1754 he was governor; also from 1737 delegate of the Diet . 1741–1745 he was the master of the national bags . Together with Landammann Johann Wolfgang von Flüe , he was the owner of a mercenary company in the service of France from 1743 to 1757. 1746–1748 he held the office of governor in the Rhine Valley. After the death of Johann Wolfgang von Flües, he was a political opponent of his sons.

In the years 1751, 1755, 1759, 1763 and 1764 he ruled as Landammann in Obwalden. From 1754 he was Pannerherr von Obwalden and Nidwalden .

Imfeld participated in numerous building projects as a designer, site manager or owner. He directed the construction of the parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Sarnen , the old college , the rifle house on the Landenberg and the renovation of the Grundacherhaus , in which he also lived.
