Johann Kaspar Mörikofer

Johann Kaspar Mörikofer (born October 11, 1799 in Frauenfeld , † October 17, 1877 in Zurich ) was a Swiss Evangelical Reformed clergyman and scholar.

Life

Johann Kaspar Mörikofer, son of Gabriel Mörikofer and Maria Magdalena Wüst, studied Protestant theology at the Collegium Carolinum in Zurich . In 1833 he married Elisabeth Beyel for the first time, and Elisabeth Ernst for the second time in 1851. Between 1822 and 1851 he worked as a teacher and principal in municipal schools in Frauenfeld and wrote for the Thurgauer Zeitung in the 1830s and 1840s . From 1851 he worked as an evangelical reformed pastor in Gottlieben and between 1853 and 1869 also as dean of the Steckborn chapter . From 1869 lived in Winterthur and Zurich as a private scholar. In 1872 he was awarded the Dr. phil. hc from the University of Zurich and in 1876 Dr. theol. hc from the University of Basel . He died in Zurich on October 17, 1877.

Services

Mörikofer was a member of the non-profit society of the Canton of Thurgau and served as its president from 1856 to 1859. He was a co-initiator of the cantonal historical association and the author of numerous works in the field of church and literary history.
