Johann Löhner

Johann Löhner (born November 21, 1645 in Nuremberg ; † April 2, 1705 ibid) was a German composer , organist and singer .

Löhner was baptized as the son of the married couple Johann Joachim Löhner (died 1650) and Anna Löhner, née Windhesel (died 1660) in Nuremberg as an Evangelical Lutheran and died in Nuremberg. The organist Georg Caspar Wecker, who served at St. Egidien, adopted Johann Löhner and instructed him musically. It is believed that he was an organ player in St. Sebald from 1665 . Towards the end of 1670 he went to Bayreuth as a singer . From 1682 he was a regular hospital organist and from 1694 until his death he worked as an organist in St. Sebald. He composed over 300 songs and three operas . Song No. 352 in the Evangelical Church Hymns testifies to his work. In 1682 his most important work, the "Auserlesene Kirch- und Tafel-Music", appeared.
