Johann Ludwig Meyer

Johann Ludwig Meyer-Zschokke (born September 25, 1858 in St. Georgen , Canton St. Gallen , † July 4, 1935 in Aarau ) was a Swiss architect .

life and work

Johann Ludwig Meyer came from an old Zurich family who had taken an active part in the visual arts and history for generations. Meyer studied architecture in Munich , Zurich and Vienna . In 1881 he came to the industrial and commercial museum in St. Gallen as assistant to the director . Meyer was appointed to head and reorganize the crafts school in Aarau in 1886 , which later became the Aargau Trade Museum, of which he was the first director. This was planned by Karl Moser and moved into in 1895.

Meyer founded the Aarau Craftsmen's Association in 1894 and was also the inspector of the Aarau craft schools; as such, he was later also responsible for the cantons of Zurich and Glarus . Thanks to his initiative, further craft schools were opened in Switzerland.

In 1925 Meyer presided over the cantonal trade exhibition in Baden and received honorary membership from the Swiss Trade Association for his services .
