Johann Martin Meyer

Johann Martin Meyer (* 7. March 1825 in Herisau ; † 18th September 1893 ibid ; heimatberechtigt ) was a Swiss entrepreneur , Cantonal and governor of the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Johann Martin Meyer was the son of Laurenz Meyer and the nephew of Emanuel Meyer . In 1852 he married Anna Elisabetha Signer, daughter of Johann Jakob Signer, owner of a finish .

Meyer initially completed a commercial apprenticeship in Trieste . Then he entered the father's business. In 1879, with the support of his brother-in-law Johann Jakob Signer , he took over the Würzersche Appretur in Herisau. Under the name of Meyer & Co., Meyer brought the company to bloom. It remained in the family's possession until 1926.

From 1853 to 1867 he held a seat on the Herisau municipal council . From 1859 to 1860, from 1862 to 1867 and from 1873 to 1893 he was also active in the Ausserrhoder Grand and Cantonal Council. Meyer served as governor from 1867 to 1871 and as governor from 1871 to 1872. He was dismissed from the latter position at the express request. Meyer worked from 1862 to 1867 and from 1873 to 1893 as a member of the insurance administration . At the same time he was Vice President of the Cantonal Bank Administration from 1876 to 1893 . As a passionate mountain hiker and botanist , Meyer set up a herbarium of plants in Herisau and campaigned for Ausserrhoden's claims to the area on the Säntis summit .
