Johann Melchior Jeitter

Johann Melchior Jeitter (born September 21, 1757 in Kleinheppach , † May 10, 1842 in Beutelsbach ) was a German forest scientist .

Life

Jeitter was born as the son of the then Fahnenjunker Daniel Jeitter, later a sergeant on the Hohentwiel . He was a student at the Hohen Karlsschule in Stuttgart from 1770 to 1780 and left there on August 14, 1780 as court hunter and forester at Wellingen. Jeitter showed an early scientific interest in his subject. In 1787 he belonged to the founders of the scientific association “Forstkränzchen”, which published the “Journal für das Forst- und Jagdwesen”, and was one of the first German foresters to publish a systematic manual on forest sciences. In 1810 he became the Württemberg chief forester in Ulm , in 1818 teacher of forest science at the Forest Institute in Stuttgart and in 1820 professor at the agricultural and forest science academy in Hohenheim . In 1826 he retired.
