Johann Niedermann
Johann Niedermann (born July 27, 1759 in Guttstadt , East Prussia , † May 4, 1833 in Vienna ) was a German portrait and history painter in Vienna.
Niedermann studied from 1780 in Graudenz , where he was influenced by the works of Daniel Chodowiecki . From 1790 to 1794 he was a student of Josef Mathias Grassi and a freelance painter in Warsaw .
After the defeat of the Kościuszko uprising , Niedermann emigrated to Vienna in 1794, where he worked as a portraitist and history painter. From 1816 to 1824 he exhibited his works in the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in St. Annahof . In Vienna he married Josefa Kögl (1781–1811) from Krems .
Niedermann signed his works on the back with “J. Niedermann pinxit ”.
