In 1799 Grassi received a professorship at the academy there in Dresden . From 1816 to 1821 he stayed in Rome in the capacity of director of studies for the royal Saxon pensioners . Grassi received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit from King Friedrich August I of Saxony and was appointed secret legation councilor by Duke August von Sachsen-Gotha . In addition, he was a member of various academies.

power

Grassi mainly painted portraits of members of the nobility and historical pictures. Several pictures were created based on poems by Duke August von Sachsen-Gotha . In terms of style, it can be attributed to academic classicism . His sensitive portraits of women were particularly valued for their grace. Very popular in his time as a portraitist, he is largely forgotten today. His portrait of Queen Luise of Prussia is still best known today.
