Johann Nikolaus Conrad Gotze

Johann Nikolaus Conrad Götze (born February 11, 1791 in Weimar ; † December 5, 1861 there ; also Goetze ) was a German composer and music director in Weimar.

Life

Götze received music lessons from his father at an early age and gained the attention and support of Duchess Anna Amalia through his violin playing . Employed in Leipzig in 1805 , he returned to Weimar in 1806, where he was employed in the chapel. He caught the attention of Duchess Maria Pawlowna and found support for violin lessons from Louis Spohr in Gotha in 1808 . In 1813 the Duchess sent him to the Paris Conservatory . During this time he was also taught by Conradin Kreutzer , among others .

In 1826 Götze was appointed grand ducal music director and choir repetiteur at the Weimar Court Theater . He stayed there until his retirement in 1848.
