Johannes Nicolaus Kuhn
Johannes Nicolaus Kuhn (born July 27, 1670 in Schweinfurt ; † November 13, 1744 in Hamburg ) was a German architect who designed numerous buildings in the Baroque style, especially in Hamburg .
Life and meaning
On a study trip to Italy , the journeyman carpenter Kuhn was inspired by the Italian Baroque and expanded his artistic skills. At the beginning of the 18th century, Kuhn was the only professional architect in the Hamburg construction industry, which was otherwise dominated by craftsmen, and enjoyed a great reputation as a connoisseur of baroque construction. His work made him rich. He was buried in the main church of St. Jacobi .

Many buildings designed by Kuhn were destroyed in Hamburg during the Second World War . This also included the Görtz-Palais on Neuer Wall , which is rated as his greatest achievement. After the war destruction, this city palace was rebuilt in 1953.
