The Good Pronstorf is located on Wardersee in the municipality Pronstorf , a few kilometers east of Bad Segeberg in Schleswig-Holstein . The estate is owned by the Rantzau family and has been managed to this day. The manor house from the 18th century - along with the manor house of Gut Güldenstein - is one of the main works of baroque architecture in Holstein.

history

The area of today's estate has been settled for many centuries. Before the Christian missionary work , there was possibly a Wends cult site dedicated to the god Perun , from which the name of the later settlement could have been derived. Since the Middle Ages , Pronstorf has been in the possession of the so-called Knights of Pronstorf , who were a branch of the ancient Buchwaldt family and owned a fortified manor, a castrum . The noble estate Pronstorf emerged from this castle during the 16th century , which with minor interruptions remained in the possession of the Buchwaldts until the 19th century.

Pronstorf was devastated by imperial troops in 1643 during the Thirty Years War . The manor was rebuilt by the 18th century and the current manor house was built from 1716. At the end of the 19th century, Pronstorf was inherited from Kaspar von Buchwaldt to the Breitenburg line of the Rantzau family , who own the estate to this day.

present

The estate economy on Pronstorf is carried out up to the present day. The focus of the over 1000 hectare estate is on agriculture and forestry, livestock farming is no longer important on Pronstorf. In addition to the agricultural business, the property is used for tourism. Concerts of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival take place on the site in summer , and the Pronstorf Christmas market at Christmas time. From 2008 the gatehouse, which was once used as a warehouse, was rebuilt to serve for exhibitions and as a guest house. Rooms are rented out for congresses or celebrations. The manor house is privately owned and is not accessible, it can only be viewed from the outside to a limited extent.

Buildings

The mansion

The manor house on Pronstorf around 1900

The manor house on Pronstorf is also often referred to as the castle . It is considered to be one of the most important works of profane baroque architecture in Holstein and served as a model for the manor house built in 1912 in neo-baroque forms on the neighboring Rohlstorf estate .

The house was built from 1716 to 1728 as the successor to a semi-detached house. Rudolph Matthias Dallin or Johannes Nicolaus Kuhn are believed to be the architects, but this cannot be proven. The mansion is a wide, eleven-axis building with a basement and two full floors under a large mansard roof . A gabled, three-axis central projection protrudes flat from both long sides of the building . The narrow sides of the building are extended like a wing over a width of two window axes, so that the mansion has an extremely lively facade structure - by Holstein standards. The entire building is structured all around with masonry colossal pilasters. Towards the end of the 18th century, minor modifications were made to the facades, for example the portal made of sandstone.

The interior of the Pronstorf manor house was originally designed in the Baroque style. At the beginning of the 19th century there was a partial redecoration in the now contemporary style of classicism . The vestibule with the adjoining garden room and the large salon are notable rooms .

The outbuildings and the manor village

The manor, the manor and the landscape park of the property are located on Wardersee, where the Wensin and Rohlstorf estates are also located. The outbuildings of the estate originate from different centuries. The late baroque cavalier's house from 1790 is placed alongside the manor house. Other buildings include various farm buildings, the largest of which is the gatehouse from 1914. It is one of the largest gatehouses in Schleswig-Holstein, in terms of its area and volume it exceeds the manor house several times. After the building served mainly as a granary for many years, it has been renovated since 2008 and put to modern use. Earlier dormers are being reconstructed and annoying fixtures from the 20th century are being removed.

The Pronstorf estate has retained a relatively uniform overall appearance up to the present day. The center of the village, which has almost 100 inhabitants, is the Vicelinkirche , which is still medieval and was also the patronage church of the landlords. The patronage lodge built by the Buchwaldt family still testifies to this today .
