Hermann Heckmann

Hermann Heckmann (born August 16, 1925 in Kreuzburg , Upper Silesia , † April 20, 2016 in Hamburg ) was a German architect and author of books on the history of architecture.

Life

Hermann Heckmann attended elementary school and the humanistic grammar school in Opole from 1931 to 1943 . From 1946 to 1950 he studied education and architecture at the Technical University of Dresden . In 1950 he passed his main diploma examination as an architect, after which he was Karl Wilhelm Ochs' scientific assistant until 1953 . In the same year he was awarded a Dr.-Ing. and in 1975 at the Ruhr University Bochum as Dr. phil. PhD . After his first doctorate, Hermann Heckmann worked as an architect for almost a decade; Until 1956 in the design office for building construction Dresden II and from 1957 to 1962 as an architect in the district office of Hamburg-Wandsbek. From 1962 to 1980 he worked as a lecturer at the engineering school for construction in Hamburg. In 1980 he was appointed professor in the architecture department of the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. He held this position until 1990. From 1991 to 2008, Heckmann was President of the Central German Cultural Council Foundation in Bonn.

In addition to his professional activity, Hermann Heckmann wrote numerous books on Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann and other builders of the Baroque and Rococo periods in central and northern Germany.
