Johann Peter Mirer

Johann Peter Mirer (born October 2, 1778 in Obersaxen ; † August 30, 1862 in St. Gallen ) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of St. Gallen .

Mirer was born the son of the gold maker and farmer Michael and his wife Maria Anna Riedi. He studied theology in Dillingen and Augsburg and was ordained a priest for the diocese of Chur on December 19, 1801 . He then studied law and philosophy in Regensburg and Würzburg . From 1809 to 1811 and from 1816 to 1819 he was a chaplain and teacher in Obersaxen. In between he was a law professor at the canton schools in Chur. On May 13, 1836 he was appointed vicar apostle for the St. Gallen part of what is now Chur-St. Gallen renamed diocese. On April 8, 1847, the Diocese of Chur-St. Gallen divided. On April 20, 1847 he was appointed Bishop of St. Gallen, on June 29, 1847 Archbishop Alessandro Macioti , Apostolic Nuncio in Switzerland, with the assistance of Kaspar de Carl ab Hohenbalken , Bishop of Chur and Georg Prünster , Auxiliary Bishop in Brixen the episcopal ordination .
