Johann Philipp Bauermeister (born October 18, 1788 in Northeim , † January 16, 1851 in Rostock ) was a German Protestant theologian . He taught at the University of Rostock .

Life

Johann Philipp Bauermeister was the son of the Northeim pastor Georg Heinrich Levin Bauermeister and his wife Johanna Christina Antoinette, a née Eickmeier. The marriage also had three sons who later studied law and three who studied theology.

Bauermeister studied theology and classical philology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . The Faculty of Theology enrolled him on November 8, 1808. Around Easter 1812, two repetition positions became vacant. The faculty recommended two students, master builders and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Freytag , because it discovered behavior, diligence and talent in them. The two students also passed the exams. As a result, they were employed as lecturers for theology and were the first lecturers who, due to a new rule, had to work two hours a day in the university library.

Until Easter 1815, the master builder acted as a repeater. In 1813 the Faculty of Philosophy appointed him a master's degree . Johannes Tütken explains this with the fact that the philosophical master’s degree was more respected than a position as a repetition.

On March 11, 1815, Bauermeister received his habilitation from the university . To this end, he defended his inaugural dissertation with the title Observationum in Hesiodi carmina specimen primum .

In 1816, Bauermeister wanted on the one hand to become an assessor and on the other hand to receive a teaching license. For this he had to prepare two disputations and there were some negotiations. Finally, he held two disputations on the same script, Johannis Chrysostoni Homiliae II Edidit . Finally he gave lectures at the philosophy and the theological faculties.

The University of Rostock appointed Bauermeister 1819 Annual theology professor . At the end of October he accepted this office and succeeded Ludwig Dankegott Cramer . When the university celebrated its 400th anniversary, he was on 13 November 1819 Doctor of theology doctorate .

At the university, Bauermeister served three times as dean of the theological faculty. In the summer semesters of 1830, 1840 and 1841 of the 777th, 787th and 788th Rector of the University of Rostock , respectively .

Bauermeister died at the age of 62 in 1851. He held the professorship until his death. Johannes Tütken notes that Bauermeister did not receive an article in the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie and was not otherwise recognized biographically. His relationship with Ernst August Philipp Mahn played an important role in Bauermeister's life, and he was probably also responsible for his appointment to Rostock.
