Johann Salomon von Hülsen

Johann Salomon von Hülsen (born April 6, 1650 in Popehnen (Amt Tapiau), † March 15, 1713 ibid) was the royal Prussian major general and heir to Popehnen and Legitten .

family

His parents were Wilhelm Friedrich von Hülsen (* 1620; † October 3, 1690) and his wife Anna Gertraut von Raesfeld (1630–1695) from the Raesfeld house near Münster. His father was the heir to Popehnen, Linkehnen, Starkenberg and Legitten as well as Colonel to Roß. He had already distinguished himself in the Turkish Wars and in 1686 at the burial of the Great Elector he was allowed to carry the blood flag.

Life

On February 13, 1675, he recruited a squadron as Rittmeister in Prussia. During the Northern War he came to Pomerania with the regiment. He took part in the fighting against the Swedes on Rügen . On January 8, 1678, the squadron was blown up there. Nevertheless, in 1680 he was a major in the Flemming Regiment. On April 12, 1690 he was appointed lieutenant colonel in the Wartensberg regiment (Küras.Nr. 1). On October 22, 1696 he became a colonel of the regiment and on January 12, 1705 major general. He fought in the battles of Höchstädt and then in Italy under the command of Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau . In the Battle of Cassano (1705) he was able to distinguish himself in the attack by six Brandenburg dragoons regiments on the bridge at Casina de poveri. In 1706 he fought with his brigade in the battles of Castiglione and Turin , in 1707 at Toulon and the siege of Susa.

On January 21, 1710, he received the Order de la Générosité from the king . He retired to his estates and died on March 15, 1713 on Popehnen.

He married Katharina von Wallenrodt (* February 16, 1647; † April 16, 1728) daughter of Gottfried von Wallenrodt and his second wife Anna Maria von Nettelhorst and a sister of the Minister Adam Christoph von Wallenrodt . The marriage remained without children.
