Johann Schulte (councilor, 1537)

Johann Schulte (* 1537 in Hamburg ; † March 5, 1597 ibid) was a German lawyer and Hamburg councilor .

Origin and family

Schulte was a son of the Hamburg cloth merchant Andreas Schulte († May 17, 1584) from his marriage to Cecilia Huge, daughter of councilor Johann Huge († March 23, 1531).

He was married to Anna Oldehorst, daughter of councilor Albert Oldehorst († 23 August 1545). Of the seven children from this marriage, Albert Schulte (April 13, 1576– December 5, 1652) became the senior age in the parish of Sankt Petri and father of the Hamburg mayor Johann Schulte (December 14, 1621– March 2, 1697).

Live and act

Schulte studied law and graduated with a degree in law. He was active as the Princely Mecklenburg Council when he was elected to the Hamburg Council in 1570. As such he undertook various embassies and was from 1590 to 1596 bailiff of the two-city office of Bergedorf . He died of the plague on March 5, 1597 in Hamburg and was buried on March 8.
