Johann Sperl (porcelain painter)

Johann Sperl (* around 1718 in Schrattenhofen ; † 25. June 1796 in Ludwigsburg ), Johann Ulrich Sperl, was German blue painter Fayencemaler , painting , porcelain artist , porcelain painters, Majolikamaler and Fayenceinspektor.

Life

Sperl was born around 1718 in Schrattenhofen, today part of Harburg (Swabia) . He was hired as a painter boy on August 20, 1736 in the Oettingen-Schrattenhofen factory. In 1745 he followed the factory manager Johann Georg Conradi when he moved to Memmingen in Upper Swabia , where he was employed by the Künersberg faience . The last owners of the factory in Oettingen-Schrattenhofener around 1749 were the later Memmingen porcelain manufacturer Albrecht August Friedrich Köhler in association with Sperl. He was also active in Göppingen. Among other things, one of his works has been preserved in Slatina Castle . From 1759 Sperl held the position of chief blue painter and from 1763 until his death that of faience inspector in Ludwigsburg.
