Johann Stötter , also Hans Stötter , (born January 4, 1956 in Munich ) is a German geographer and professor at the University of Innsbruck .

Life

Hans Stötter studied geography , cartography and landscape ecology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1976 to 1984 , where he received his doctorate in 1991 with a geomorphological thesis on Iceland. In 1998 he was appointed to the chair of geography as the successor to Gerhard Abele . From 2010 to 2012 he was Scientific Director of the AlpS Center for Climage Change Adaptation Technologies in Innsbruck, in 2011 he became part of the founding board of the Climate Change Center Austria ( CCCA for short ), where he continues to be a member of the board. Hans Stötter is considered to be the leading geographer of Austrian climate change research and is also dedicated to questions of geomorphology , natural hazards - and mountain research . He represents an integrative geographic approach and is methodically active in the field of geographic information systems and remote sensing (especially LiDAR ). Regionally, he mainly deals with the Alps and Iceland.
