from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Theodor Ludwig Schroeder , actually Johann Schroeder , also Johann Theodor Ludwig Schroeder , sometimes (normalizing?) Schröder (born December 11, 1799 in Lübeck , † January 1, 1879 in Rostock ) was a German doctor.

Life

Johann Schroeder studied medicine at the universities of Göttingen and Würzburg . He received his doctorate on May 25, 1827 at the University of Rostock . Here he became a member of the Corps Vandalia Rostock in 1825 . He was then a practicing doctor, from 1833 also a private lecturer in Rostock. In 1835 he came to the Irren-Heil- und Bewahr-Anstalt St. Catharinen-Stiftung in Rostock as a senior physician and worked there until 1865.

Signature of Hofmedikus Schröder

On May 31, 1837, Schröder was appointed court medic, and on May 25, 1877, he was appointed medical councilor. The city of Rostock named Schröderstrasse and Schröderplatz after the doctor.

From 1854 to 1862 Johann Schroeder was also the doctor of the poet Alwine Wuthenow , who described him as follows in November 1861:

It is the driest person under the sun that I have seen; maybe very learned; but in these 8 years I have not yet benefited, no matter how often he wanted to introduce me to the depths of his knowledge with Latin and other strange words. Nothing came of it, and it may well be my fault that I can't reach so high. [...] And yet I feel obliged to thank him for the constant and never tired participation that he has given me up to now. "

estate

In 2018, the Rostock Cultural History Museum was able to acquire Schröder's estate with numerous documents, which was offered at auction, with the help of Fielmann AG.
