Eberhard Schmidt (born December 26, 1949 in Gützkow ; † April 23, 2020 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German civil engineer , hydrologist and editor .

Life

Eberhard Schmidt did his Abitur in 1968 at the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Gymnasium Greifswald and studied water management in Dresden from 1970 to 1974 with Karl-Franz Busch and Ludwig Luckner . He has lived in Frankfurt (Oder) since 1974 . As a research assistant in engineering offices there, Schmidt published on hydrological issues in the Oder catchment area and on special topics in electronic data processing and programming ( computing technology / data processing , MP microprocessor technology and new technology in the office ). At the Chamber of Technology he gave lectures on Fortran and Assembler programming.

In the early 1990s, Schmidt worked in a Berlin specialist magazine editorial team. Since 1992 he has been working as a consultant in the state hydrological service of Brandenburg . He developed hydrological specialist software that was introduced in several East German federal states (e.g. STYX program ). Since 2006, Schmidt was also head of the Frankfurt (Oder) flood center and member of the hydrology group in the bilateral border water commission of Poland and Germany. He retired from work in 2014.

He has also edited letters and poems by Bertha Balthasar (1814–1890), Theodor Pyl (1826–1904) and Alwine Wuthenow (1820–1908).
