Johann Wilhelm Plaßmann

Johann Wilhelm Plaßmann (born June 18, 1818 in Arnsberg ; † 1898 in Münster ) was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives , director of the rural poor in the province of Westphalia and honorary curator of the collections of the Association for the History and Archeology of Westphalia, Department of Münster .

Life

He was the son of the master builder Ernst Vincenz Plaßmann zu Allehof and Eleonore Brunswicker. In addition to his sister Luise, he had his brother Ernst, who was a public prosecutor in Arnsberg and a judiciary in Hamm . He attended the Laurentianum grammar school until 1836 , left as a subpriman and worked in agriculture. He finally took over the management of the Allehof family estate near Balve . After the death of the Paderborn cathedral capitular Plaßmann, the estate passed on to him as an inheritance.

From 1849 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives. He represented the Arnsberg , Brilon and Meschede districts . He was regularly re-elected until 1862. At first he belonged to the Auerswald-Schwerin faction and later to the Catholic faction . He did not emerge as a debate speaker. But he participated intensively in the work of the commissions (today committees) and was considered to be a good expert on the state budget and finance. He was closely connected to Hermann von Mallinckrodt .

He was also active in local politics. At first he was the community leader and from 1859 volunteer for the office of Balve . In 1871 he became director of the rural poor for the province of Westphalia and has lived in Münster ever since. He held this position until 1890. He was significantly involved in the institutions in Marienthal and Eickelborn . In addition, he was a city councilor and even city councilor in Münster.

As an autodidact, Plaßmann also worked intensively in the Westphalian Antiquities Association. He helped organize the first exhibition in 1879 and became the curator of the Antiquities Museum. He procured a number of exhibits for the museum (later part of the LWL State Museum for Art and Cultural History ). Under his direction, the museum moved within Münster several times. Not only did he help to compile the collection, but also put it in order and started to create a catalog.

In 1898 he was made an honorary member of the Westphalian Antiquities Association.
