Johann von Borsnitz

Johann von Borsnitz (also Johann von Borschnitz ; † after March 27, 1420 in Lebus ) was bishop of Lebus from 1397 to 1420 and bishop of Gran in 1420 .

Life

Johann von Borsnitz came from Silesia and was canon in Prague . Around 1378 studied at the Charles University in Prague , where he graduated with a Dr. decretorum acquired. After that he was papal chaplain and auditor of the Rota .

After the death of the Lubusz bishop Johannes III. Frost he was elected his successor by the cathedral chapter and on September 24, 1397 by Pope Boniface IX. approved. The episcopal ordination took place after June 16, 1398 in Rome.

During his tenure he founded a chapter in the Marian pilgrimage site of Göritz . In 1405 he arranged for the establishment of the Lubusz pen register "Registrum ecclesiae Lubucensis diocesis", in which the 166 parishes, villages and income as well as the possessions in Rothreußen , Greater and Lesser Poland are listed. In 1409 he took part in the Council of Pisa , from which he became Pope Gregory XII. was sent to invite to the council. Between 1414 and 1418 he was recorded as a participant in the Council of Constance several times .

On March 27, 1420 he was transferred by Pope Martin V to the Archdiocese of Gran , but could not take up the office because he presumably died earlier in Lebus.
