Johanna Grund

Johanna-Christina Grund (born July 17, 1934 in Breslau ; † July 13, 2017 in Baden near Vienna ) was a German journalist , author , speaker and politician who was part of the Republicans at times . From 1989 to 1994 she was a member of the European Parliament .

Political activity

Johanna Grund was Deputy Federal President of the Republicans (REP) and one of the six MPs that the REP sent to the European Parliament after the European elections in 1989 .

The reason was a strict opponent of the Maastricht Treaty and advocated the annexation of South Tyrol to Austria . In the negotiations on the formation of a joint parliamentary group of right-wing extremist parties, she therefore objected to cooperation with the Italian MSI . In 1990 she was acting Federal President of the Republicans for a few weeks when Franz Schönhuber resigned from office. After Schönhuber's re-election, she left the Republicans after disputes with him and, in May 1991, the Technical Group of the European Right .

A brief commitment to the party Aufbruch 94 together with her ex-REP colleague Emil Schlee was unsuccessful, the party no longer exists.

At the end of July 2017, Grund was found dead in her apartment in Baden near Vienna . Her urn was buried in Dozwil in the canton of Thurgau , where she last had her main residence.

Journalistic activity

Among other things, Grund published articles in the magazines Junge Freiheit , Nation and Europa as well as a volume in the series Eckartschriften of the Austrian Landsmannschaft . She regularly wrote columns in the Austrian weekly newspaper Zur Zeit . In 1995 her book I was a MEP was published . As a speaker, she appeared in various right-wing, right-wing extremist and Europe-critical groups.
