Johanna Jura

Johanna Jura , née Klitsch (born July 5, 1923 in Gerbstedt , † April 12, 1994 in Berlin-Mahlsdorf ) was a German sculptor and ceramist .

Life

From 1942 to 1946 she studied sculpture and picture weaving at the Burg Giebichenstein art school in Halle (Saale) . She then completed a master class with Gustav Weidanz from 1946 to 1948 . In 1947 she became a founding member of the Halle artists' association " Die Fähre ".

From 1949 she worked as a freelance sculptor, weaver and ceramist, initially in Halle until 1959. From 1949 to 1951 she was teaching sculptural design at the Institute for Art Education at Martin Luther University . In 1959 she moved to Erfurt , from 1964 she lived in Berlin-Mahlsdorf. There she set up a ceramics workshop in 1979 and turned completely to ceramic small sculptures. The focus was on people as a single figure and in groups of sculptures.

Her work includes works of building-related art in public spaces in Berlin, portraits, sculptures, reliefs and small sculptures.
