Johannes Nepomuk statue (Teuschnitz)
The Johannes Nepomuk statue in front of the town hall of the Upper Franconian town of Teuschnitz is a representation of Saint Johannes Nepomuk .
The sandstone statue , which is a listed building, stands on a high square base, the four sides of which are decorated with ornaments . The year of construction 1753 is carved on the front of the base below the cornice . For protection, the base and statue are surrounded by a hexagonal iron grille that was added later.
The reason for the erection of the Nepomuk statue is not known. There may be a connection with an earlier pilgrimage from Teuschnitz to the pilgrimage church of Maria Kulm in Egerland . In addition, the saint was supposed to protect the city fountain opposite from drying out.
