Johannes Acronius

Johannes Acronius (* 1565 in Grimersum ; † September 29, 1627 in Haarlem ) was an East Frisian Reformed theologian .

Live and act

Acronius was born the son of a pastor . He attended the Latin school in Emden and from 1582 studied Protestant theology in Neustadt an der Haardt . In 1584 he passed his exam before the community of preachers in the Greetsiel office and worked as a pastor in Eilsum . In 1601 he was called to Groningen . In 1602 he was elected President , in 1611 he moved to Wesel . From the Spanish troops he fled to Deventer in 1614 . On April 4, 1617 he was called to Franeker as professor of theology . In 1619 he moved to Haarlem , where he died in 1627.

Acronius made a name for its part in the dispute between Arminians, or Remonstrants and Contraremonstrants . He was considered intransigent towards dissenters inside and outside the church and as a guardian of God's laws.
