Johannes Beck (pedagogue)

Johannes Beck (born October 2, 1938 in Breslau ; † December 2, 2013 in Franconian Switzerland ) was a German educator , sociologist and university professor.

Life

Beck learned the trade of a construction and cabinet maker . Beck acquired his university entrance qualification through the second educational path . He worked as a primary and secondary school teacher for five years. After additional studies in pedagogy and sociology with Heinz-Joachim Heydorn and Ivan Illich , Beck worked as an assistant for sociology of education at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main from 1968 . At the same time, he took on teaching positions at various universities. In 1971 he went to the University of Bremen as a professor for communication science . In 1974 he was appointed to a chair for general pedagogy in Bremen , which he held until his retirement in 2003. In 1993 he was awarded the Berninghausen Prize for excellent teaching and innovation .
