Johannes Combach

Johannes Combach (born December 5, 1585 in Wetter , † June 4, 1651 in Kassel ) was a German professor , librarian and theologian .

The son of the mayor of the same name, Johannes Combach (Kompecher), studied philosophy and theology in Marburg , where he obtained his master's degree in 1605 . In 1609 he attended Oxford University and was appointed professor of philosophy on his return to Marburg in 1610. In 1618 he also obtained a licentiate in theology. From 1621 to 1624 he was in charge of the university library at the Philipps University of Marburg . After the Lutheran Landgrave of Hessen-Darmstadt took over the university , he was dismissed like all professors of the Reformed Confession and accepted a position as a preacher in Felsberg . From 1634 he worked as a professor of theology and philosophy at the reformed Kassel University . In 1639 he accepted a call from the city of Bremen to teach at the local grammar school; However, he returned to Kassel in 1643, where he died in 1651. He was Vice-Rector in 1633 and 1634 and Rector of the University of Kassel in 1646 .

Johannes Combach published over 170 works, including several disputations by his students.

His brother Ludwig Combach (1590–1657) was a Hessian personal physician; his brother Christoph was rector of the "Academiola Wetterana" in his hometown.

A sports facility in Felsberg is named after Combach.
