Johannes Freder , called the Younger (born January 6, 1544 in Hamburg ; † May 4, 1604 in Rostock ) was a German professor of theology.

Life

Johannes Freder (the younger) was a son of the eponymous theologian Johannes Freder (the elder) and his wife Anna, geb. Falcke.

He attended schools in Stralsund , Greifswald and Wismar . In 1562 he enrolled at the University of Rostock . In 1567 he obtained the degree of Magister artium ; a year later he was appointed rector of the Güstrow cathedral school . In 1572 Freder was appointed professor for Christian catechesis at the Rostock pedagogy. A year later he married the daughter Margarete of the Rostock professor David Chyträus and his wife Margarete, geb. Smedes († 1571). In the same year he was accepted into the Rostock faculty. On July 13, 1587 he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD. Elected superintendent of the Rostock church district in 1591, Freder became professor of theology at the University of Rostock a year later.

In 1584 and 1600 he was rector of the University of Rostock, and in 1594 vice rector.
