Johannes G. Deckers

Johannes G. Deckers (born March 23, 1940 ), full name Johannes Georg Deckers , is a German Christian archaeologist .

He studied Classical Archeology, Art History, Christian Archeology and Byzantine Art History in Freiburg , where he received his doctorate in 1973 with the work The Old Testament Cycle by S. Maria Maggiore in Rome . From 1974 to 1983 he was head of the archaeological monument preservation department in Cologne and lecturer at the University of Bonn . From 1983 to 1987 he was a consultant for Christian archeology at the German Archaeological Institute in Rome. In 1987 he completed his habilitation at the University of Heidelberg . From 1987 to 2005 Deckers taught as a professor for early Christian and Byzantine art history at the University of Munich .
