Johannes Hawlik

Johannes Hawlik (* 1945 in Eisenberg ad March ; † September 28, 2009 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ), historian and media researcher.

Life

Hawlik was born in Northern Moravia and came to Vienna with his family after the war. After graduating from Realgymnasium in Vienna, he studied contemporary history and German at the University of Vienna . In 1972 he received his PhD in history. From 1974 to 1987 he was editor of the "Zeitschrift für Kommunalpolitik" and the magazine "Energie und Umwelt" and was also active as an author and curator of exhibitions. His publication “More private - less state” became famous.

After 1997, Hawlik worked in the market research institute GfK Austria in media research .

Hawlik belonged to the so-called “Colorful Birds” movement in the ÖVP Vienna, which, under Erhard Busek, propagated new socio-political and ecological topics in the ÖVP. From 1982 to 1997 Hawlik was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and City Council , where health, social affairs and urban development were among his core issues.

In 2009 Hawlik succumbed to cancer.
