Rudolf Bretschneider

Rudolf (F.) Bretschneider (born February 20, 1944 in Vienna ) is an Austrian social scientist and publicist .

life and career

Bretschneider, son of the writer Gusti Bretschneider , began teaching psychology, German studies and physical exercises in Vienna in 1962 , graduating in 1969 with a major in psychology and a minor in German. From 1965 he no longer received a scholarship and therefore began in the same year as a survey researcher at the FESSEL Institute, founded in 1950, which has been integrated into the GfK Group since 1972 , was now called the Fessel + GfK Institute and has been operating as GfK Austria GmbH since 2007. From 1973 to 2007 he was the company's managing director and then a consultant. In 1970 he became a lecturer at the Institute for Journalism and Communication Studies at the University of Vienna .

From 1989 to 1994 Bretschneider was national representative at the European Society for Opinion and Market Research (ESOMAR) , in 1994 he became a member of the advisory board of the Austrian Society for European Politics (ÖGfE) , in 1998 a member of the board of the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM) and in 2008 deputy chairman of the Federal Institute for Educational Research, Innovation and Development of the Austrian School System (bifie) .

Bretschneider has written numerous publications on questions of social research, Austrian culture and identity in social science and public bodies and was editor of the “Wiener Journal” from 1986 to 1993.
