Johannes Hendrikus "Jan" Hengeveld (* December 24, 1894 in Arnhem ; † May 4, 1961 ibid) was a Dutch tug of war and Olympic silver medalist.
Career
At the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp , Belgium , Bekkers won the silver medal in the tug of war together with Wilhelmus Johannes Bekkers , Sijtse Jansma , Henk Janssen , the brothers Antonius and Willem van Loon and the brother couple Marinus and Willem van Rekum . In the competition that took place on August 17 and 18, 1920, the eight-man team, whose average weight was 85 kilograms per person, competed against the Italian team in the first competition ; The Dutch won the duel 2-0 after 71 and 43.25 seconds respectively. The second competition against the United Kingdom was lost after 28.8 and 13.4 seconds with 0: 2, so that the team had no chance of winning the gold medal. The following contest for the silver medal against the Belgians at home was decided by the Dutch 2-0 in their favor after 63.4 and 123 seconds. Hengeveld and his team won the first medal in the Olympic history of the Netherlands .
Hengeveld belonged to the Arnhemer Krachtsportvereniging Achilles .
