The son of a school principal studied since December 10, 1650 at the University of Wittenberg and on April 26, 1652 acquired the academic degree of a master's degree . On returning to Bojanova, however, he got into an argument with his Protestant co-religionists and went to Stockholm as the principal of the German school . Because of denominational disputes, he was relieved of his office in 1675 and then stayed in Königsberg (Prussia) and Danzig . He again obtained a pastor's position in Graudenz, where he also died.

Herbinius rendered outstanding services to the Polish Evangelical Church and became known through many writings. He translated Martin Luther's little catechism , the Confessio Augustana and several hymns into the Polish language .
