Johannes Hinrich von Borstel (born August 8, 1988 in Goslar ) is a German author , science slammer , moderator and science communicator .

Life

Von Borstel grew up in Clausthal-Zellerfeld , graduated from high school in 2009 and passed his paramedic exam . He then lived in Vienna and Budapest until he moved to Marburg to study medicine in 2011 . In 2013 he was on a science slam stage for the first time in the Hessisches Landestheater Marburg . He achieved first place in over 35 science slams with several lectures, which were also published on YouTube , was West German champion in 2013 and German runner-up in 2015.

In the same year he published his non-fiction book “You can't mow your heart palpitations - Everything about our most important organ”, which has been on the Spiegel bestseller list of the top 20 paperback non-fiction book positions for eight weeks and has so far been published in 20 languages.

Von Borstel had appearances on the talk shows Markus Lanz on ZDF , on the red sofa on DAS! on NDR , on Sat.1 breakfast television and on All around healthy on SWR .

For 2017, von Borstel was a member of the Health-I-Board, one of the think tanks founded by Techniker Krankenkasse and Handelsblatt on topics in the health industry, and was a member of the expert jury for the communication prize of the German Society for Palliative Medicine and the German Palliative Foundation in 2018 and 2020. Von Borstel writes for the online magazine “Zebrabutter”, the “Resonanzboden blog” of Ullstein book publishers and the blog “The earth is not a disc”.
