Johannes Hoffart
Johannes Hoffart (born January 22, 1851 in Mannheim , † July 10, 1921 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor .
Life
After training at the Munich Academy under Joseph Knabl , further studies brought him to Paris and the Netherlands in 1869/72. From 1881 he lived again in Munich, from 1896 he worked as a sculptor in Berlin .
Works
Hoffart created the two monuments to Karl Friedrich von Baden and Karl I. Ludwig von der Pfalz in front of the wings of the Mannheim Palace for Mannheim , as well as a colossal bust of Richard Wagner at the "Richard Wagner House". In 1888/92 he designed eight bronze groups on a fountain, designed as a water dispenser on the base of the figure pyramid by Grupello on Paradeplatz, which was erected in 1741 (originally in 1722 in the Schwetzingen Palace Park) . The colossal figure of a nereid for the crowning of the water tower (1889) also comes from him, as does the bronze group “Industry and Commerce” and the bronze bust of the mayor Otto Beck on his grave monument. His main work is probably the crucifixion group and sculptures on the choir wall in the Christ Church , which date back to 1911.
In Karlsruhe he created a marble grave figure at the Albert Bürklin family grave (1886).
In 1993 a street in Mannheim was named after Hoffart.
